Message From The Principal

Greetings Central Avenue Families!

Welcome to a new school year! Our staff have been preparing for an excellent school year and you can expect us to be at our very best! At Central Avenue, we believe that parents play an integral part of student success. We appreciate your partnership and the role you play by ensuring your child is getting enough rest each night, has a designated place to complete homework, reads (or is read to) at least 20-30 minutes per night, and is at school on time, ready to learn.

Did you know that attendance matters starting as early as Kindergarten? Studies show many children who miss too many days of school can struggle academically in later years. Last year, 133 students missed between 8 and 16 days of school, and 37 students missed more than 16 days. Please help us meet our goal of reducing absences to eight or fewer per student for the entire school year!

This September, we will be testing all students to obtain a baseline of their reading and math skills using a new benchmark assessment called Fast Bridge. We look forward to sharing the results of these assessments with you during student-led conferences the week of October 1-4th to set goals for your child for the school year.

We will also have many projects happening over the course of the school year, so please ensure to obtain clearance to volunteer! You can do so by visiting Volunteer Online Registration. Clearance must be done each year.

I also want to take this opportunity to invite you to join PTA. Central Avenue has one of the strongest PTA’s in our school district and by joining, you show that you support a national children’s advocacy organization, and you help Central Avenue’s PTA as they give support to educational programs and family events like the Harvest Carnival, Popcorn Fridays, Accelerated Reader Reward Day, and more! It’s $12 for a single membership or $20 for a 2-person membership. You can join by going to or follow the link:

I look forward to partnering with you! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, good news, or concerns! 253-298-3200 or
